Carl is one of the longest-serving members of the team, joining NCO in 2002. One of Melbourne’s most respected and experienced Osteopaths. Carl has shared his talents and mentored many budding Osteopaths over his career. He has the full suite of treatment skills at his disposal – everything from deep tissue massage and manipulation, to gentle balancing techniques. Carl has a special interest in complex pain and injury problems, postural issues, and is our go-to shoulder injury man!
Prior to his career as an osteopath, Carl graduated with a degree in Physical Education and worked as a secondary school teacher. During his studies, he developed a shoulder injury and sought treatment from an array of different practitioners. Acting on a recommendation from a friend he visited an Osteopath, who he found to be the only practitioner that was able to provide long-term support. His interest in the field of Osteopathy grew from this experience.
When Carl made the choice to leave the teaching profession, he decided to follow his interest and completed his degree in Osteopathy. This has led to a seventeen-year career as an Osteopath. In this time, he has taught at Victoria University and the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy, as well as teaching Myotherapy at a private college.
Currently Carl is an Industry Fellow in Health, Physical Education and Sport at RMIT University, writing courses and lecturing anatomy, physiology and exercise physiology to physical education students. Carl has sat on the State Council of Osteopathy Australia and has also served as a member of the Clinical Practice Group in Sport Osteopathy for the past 12 years.
Outside his work as an Osteopath, Carl pursues a passion for photography and drawing; pastimes which he actively follows in his free time. However, he has not chosen to continue his previous work as an apple thinner, where he would spend countless hours stripping apples from trees. We’re so glad he has traded orchards for Osteopathy!

I grew up in a small town in north-east Victoria, spending a lot of free time wandering around the surrounding land that we lived on; climbing trees, or falling in the creek that ran across the bottom of the property. I guess I have always had a fascination with the way the body moves. From an early age I was involved with sports – cross country running, cricket, tennis, afl (vfl at the time) football and squash. Through this interest in sport I moved to Melbourne to study Physical Education. It was during this time that I developed a shoulder injury, and despite investigating a variety of treatment types had little success. Acting on a recommendation from a friend I visited an Osteopath, who was to be the only practitioner that was able to provide long-term support. This is where my interest in the field of Osteopathy began.
Fast forward 27 years; that includes about 5 schools, 5 more years at university, and 17 years in private practice, you will find me at Nth Carlton Osteopathy, enjoying my time looking after my clients. I strive to continue to enhance my clinical skills each year through different professional learning, so that I can maintain the highest level of practice that I can. The enjoyment of time in clinic has only heightened over the years, and I look forward to many more.
