March marks National Endometriosis Awareness Month, a campaign dedicated to raising awareness, providing education, and funding vital research into this often-debilitating condition.
What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. These adhesions can develop on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding pelvic structures. Unlike the uterine lining, which sheds during menstruation, these misplaced tissues have no way to exit the body. This leads to pain, inflammation, scarring, and discomfort, affecting as many as 1 in 10 women of reproductive age.
How can your Osteopath help?
Osteopathy takes a holistic approach, tailoring treatment to each individual’s presentation. Osteopaths assess & treat joint restrictions, muscle tightness, imbalances, and any stress to the muscles, fascia, joints, and ligaments to help relieve pain and stiffness which can improve overall function. This can include helping with drainage and functioning of the pelvis and the organs within.
Techniques your Osteopathy might use include,
- Soft tissue massage
- Mobilisation of joints
- Gentle manipulation
- Dry needling
- Myofascial techniques
- Stretching
- Exercise perception
- Management techniques
If you experience pain or are looking for advice I recommend coming into the clinic for a tailored treatment and management program. The team at North Carlton Osteopathy are all here to keep you moving pain-free and help manage chronic conditions.
