keep the body in balance for life
The female body is a complex marvel that, nonetheless, often benefits from the holistic approach of Osteopathy. We’ve found, for example, that manipulative therapy can be extremely beneficial in managing the pain and symptoms associated with PMS. Reducing constriction in the lower abdomen is also helpful in dealing with endometriosis and urinary tract infections. We frequently treat long-term health issues arising from childbirth, such as incontinence and prolapse. And our gentle therapeutic approach is ideally suited for older patients wishing to minimize the symptoms of arthritis – reducing pain, easing swelling and increasing mobility. At every stage, we can help women improve the quality of their life.
FAQs
What sort of conditions do we treat?
We are proficient at assessing and treating many health conditions that are particular to, or more prevalent, in women.
- Headaches & migraines
- Menstrual pain and the back pain that often accompanies it
- Frozen shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
- Joint pains that often accompany autoimmune disorders
- Osteoarthritis
- Back and joint pains during pregnancy, or from caring for your baby
We use a range of gentle techniques – from soft tissue massage, stretching, joint manipulation, lymphatic drainage to very gentle, local area or whole body indirect balancing techniques.
What should I wear to an appointment?
Comfortable, loose clothing – something you can move freely in. At times, and only with your consent, we might need to expose an area of your body for examination or treatment purposes – such as performing soft tissue massage with cream or oil. If it is necessary to undress, we provide a gown to wear over your underwear, and we keep you appropriately draped with a towel at all times. If at any time you feel like you want to wear more of your clothing during treatment, that is totally ok – and please let your Osteopath know straight away.
What can I expect from a consultation, and how much does it cost?
For your first consultation (45mins), you will be asked to fill out a New Patient form. Your Osteopath will then take a very thorough history and ask you lots of questions to help work out a diagnosis. Next comes an examination which will include taking you through movements, performing orthopaedic and other exams, and palpating the areas involved.
A diagnosis and treatment plan are then discussed and agreed to with you.
Treatment often consists of the gentle techniques mentioned above, and the Osteopath might give you exercises and strategies to help yourself at home.
For most conditions we would expect to see improvement within a very short time – perhaps 3 to 4 treatments. Some conditions need more time, and regular follow up treatments to manage them – but this is always discussed and agreed to by both the patient and the Osteopath.
